For The Parents

Welcome Parents / Guardians!

Inspired and organized by its founders, Evan Rogers, Paul Miller & Todd Skinner. Lucky Sevan (L7) was established in 2006, and as of 2017, has functioned as a not-for-profit foundation called Lucky Sevan Foundation, Inc. L7 exists to more effectively teach and inspire our young people of today by providing them meaningful and effective tools they need to further shape their true character and prepare them for ALL of life’s challenges and successes of tomorrow.

“When we are weak then we are strong. To help each young person understand that life has limitless opportunities if one steps out of one’s comfort zone and onto the water. This begins with meekness, humility and trust. We as individuals must rely on the group to support, sustain and literally save us. Trust in its mentors and trust in its fellow brothers enables life changing experiences, even miracles to take place. Each of us has a part to play. Humility and trust will ultimately lead us to the most important and powerful trust of all– that of trusting in and receiving from the Savior, Jesus Christ.”

– Lucky Sevan Founder, Evan Rogers

Principle 1

No Teasing. We have a zero tolerance policy for teasing of any size, shape, or form regardless of its silly and playful nature at our camps.  Teasing is not tolerated in any way whatsoever.  We believe in being completely genuine and sincere in mentoring and leading the extraordinary youth of tomorrow, and we shall not waste precious time even joking around or teasing others. Rather, we believe in loving others unconditionally, living the “ultimate cool” and being uber inclusive and accepting, complementary and expressing gratitude often, and recognizing and awarding deeds of kindness and teamwork genuinely.

Principle 2

Lucky Sevan youth leadership surf camps are designed to develop life changing opportunities for your son(s) and / or daughter(s). The beach and Mother Ocean are the backdrop where we teach young people to engage with life’s challenges and embrace these challenges as opportunities for growth.

Because opportunities and challenges are being presented to our youth  at younger and younger ages, Lucky Sevan has been designed for youth ages 15-19 years of age. Nevertheless, we shall make age exceptions; please do contact us if you have questions.

Principle 3

We believe that “happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities”. (The Family: A Proclamation to the World, October 1995)

The Lucky Sevan camp experience is a founded on these same principles of service and team building and recreational activities, and in an environment where faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, and compassion are modeled in a team environment.

Principle 4

Lucky Sevan is much more than teaching young people how to surf.  Our annual 5 day / 4 night surf camp was established to provide a loving, supportive, and inclusive environment for life changing experiences to take place. Each young person belongs to a team, with a team captain and co-captain. Lucky Sevan trained adult mentors direct each day’s activities. Daily team activities instill communication, inclusion, trust, faith, humility, self-confidence, and physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional discipline as the essential pillars for success. Surf sessions, daily team building activities, mid morning workshops, meditation and yoga sessions, and inspiring evening devotionals allow each young person to incorporate these principles into his and her lives.  Each Lucky Sevan camp participants will experience the gospel in action and discover the deep satisfaction of using their time and talents to make a difference in the world around them

Principle 5

Safety and care for your camp participants is paramount and is of utmost importance to us.  Inasmuch as we do not maintain health professionals on staff, we will coordinate any health and safety concerns with you-parents and/or legal guardians.

Principle 6

All camp participants as well as camp staff, administration, and mentor leaders will be held to the highest of expectations with respect to personal conduct and behavior. Lucky Sevan staff, administration and mentor leaders reserve the right to consider and address individual circumstances as they have been trained and directed as needed. Camp participants may be dismissed from the camp program, and sent home at their own expense, if personally involved in, or assisting in any of the following behavior: any form of sexual promiscuity—including viewing and/or sharing pornographic material, theft of any kind, use of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs including unlawful use of prescription medications, or actions that are harmful to others, or themselves—physically, emotionally, or spiritually.

Principle 7

Your camp participant will get out of it they decide to put into it. Being present during the camp is critical for them in achieving a fresh perspective of themself and their world around them. To create the right environment to be present and maximize the camp’s impact, camp participants will unplug for the duration of the camp. No cell phones, MP3s/iPods, tablets, or any electronic devices will be used for the duration of the camp. Additionally, letting go and being willing to shed or improve their old self is the founding and core principle of the Lucky Sevan Foundation and why we created these unique and powerful camps-for THEM.
